THX VLC && Another Windows 7 Feature

image

How cool is this. For all the nerds and geeks out there VLC Media Player Remembers us that it is X-Mas. And also very cool thing about Windows 7. You don’t have to install ZoomIt from SysInternals to zoom into your Desktop. Just simple press [Windows Key] + [+ Key] and you will zoom in. I also like the really cleaned up Notification and Icon Area in Windows 7. That makes my Day. Thx Windows Division.

Some things for X-Mas

So it’s X-Mas time. And i’m still working. Since i need a break after 22h coding. I guess it’s time for another blog entry. Well you know this days when you’re the only one in the office. And perhaps nobody is online at skype, excuse me i mean msn. Well nobody talks to you. So i decided to listen to online radio for a while. And since the world wide web i have the chance to listen to nrj.ru or to some Japanese radio stations. But sometimes i really want to watch an movie. Not that i like to see it, but i need the surrounding effect. So i watched this movie with Elisha Cuthbert, called “My Sassy Girl”. So two things: No i’m not gay. And no i don’t like that kind of Mandy Moore films. Ok i do like that kind of Mandy Moore films but i never would tell it in public. However i really like the Movie and i also saw that film “Girl next door” but does her width is a little bit incremented by the past years? How cares, she’s still cute. It wasn’t what i waned to tell. The real story is, that i use Portals like veoh and watchnewfilms to look after new films and what is coming up next on cinema. Have to do something till Feb’09 when BSG Season 4 SE is returning. Well funny thing is, i really look at this poor quality to went to my video rental to rent the DVD. So first looking it in the internet for free, and then if the movie is good i buy or rent it. Depend on how good this movie really is. I guess that’s strange?! However on my travel through does sites i found a picture. Doesn’t know who is the artist but it’s obviously a master. I mean i love coca cola.

SidewalkArt-Chalk-CocaColabottle-Ju

Since i don’t believe in non story telling without any technical background, this is just a demo text. I’m currently testing the Metagrabber from RalfW. He developed a muster analysis tool i really have to test this thing. So you and the software can learn a lot about me. No Killing it’s really a Betatest.

Pain in my neck or – no, it’s not a pixel

How hard could it be. I’m talking about Designguys vs. Developergeeks. What else?! Ok why is Width & Height in the .net Framework a double value instead of an integer. Have you ever seen a 1/3 pixel? No, your not! Well good question (not). Well since Microsoft believes in a Operating System independent value for the Height an the Width, this are logical pixels. Or like Petzold says “device-independent units”. This means each unit is 1/96 “ which is in metric system ~0,26mm. So as long as you keep your DPI in Window at 96dpi the hole story fits. But there are some people in the world like me having a desktop resolution of 1680x1050 pixel. It’s super for Applications like  Visual Studio and a few other programs. But since i’m not that kind of eagle-eye i uses a higher dpi. amount. Normally i uses 120 dpi. Actually Windows 7 is a bless. You can really scale this thing like you want. But there is two kind of people really doesn’t like this. First the Internships doesn’t get what dynamic means and Secondary the Designers working for us. So whatever. I wrote them an nice email to explain my situation but they doesn’t want to get it.

I decided to make a change in the project backlog. Now every graphic is a vector graphic and the scaling fits. But one challenge still remains. What the hell is going on with this internships. And how is hiring this people? – Any suggestions?

Meeting Jason Zander

Hey folks, it’s a long time since i write my last blog entry. I was bussy this days. But now i will be back. First of all there is this Interview with Jason Zander. I met so many great people this year. John Leffor which is the Pheonix and Research guy from Microsoft. Then on the Technical Summit 2008 Thomas Dallmair and i had the Chance to talk to Jason. We did a short Interview for Channel8

10 Minutes on Dev 10 - Jason Zander

I don’t like the this pink color. Anyway, we asked Jason about the new Visual Studio Editor. It’s a proof of concept for WPF from my personal feeling. Jason told us how hey actually told his LPM’s to test the new Features in .net 4.0.

An we asked him if it is possible to extend the Visual Studio Express. Due to the fact that we really have some things we want to share with users how still learning visual studio. Or students who are using the free version. Well as a matter of fact the their is no legal chance to do this. However doesn’t means it impossible. But you better don’t try it. Microsoft will not be amused.

What else more can i tell you? Well there is this little promise he made. Ok for all of you guys already have developed a vs plugin. Don’t worry. In some cases it will work great under dev 10. And in some others perhaps not. But their will be an easy to use deployment strategy. Whatever that means. ;-)

So enough about Berlin and the Technical Summit. Except the strange Hotel i was. It’s called Hotel Kaiser. Well this is really something strange. Imagine a house in a house in a house. It was a bit of adventure. But i liked it.

DSC00016

And another strange thing. The Convention Center the Technical Summit took place was like a space ship designed in the early 70th. Well i doesn’t liked it until Tom tells me: “Think about it as a space ship” since this sentence everything fits. And i was totally impressed. More about the Technical Summit.

It looks like Vista but wait ...

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA Windows (R) 7
For testing purposes only.
Build 6544

I was at the Hasso Plattner Institute, University of Potsdam. Where we attend to a one week High Performance Computing Event.

Very very cool Sessions and Speeches which covered things like Windows, Windows Server, Hyper-V, Hyper Visor, and a lot of other stuff such as Windows Kernel ...

We are currently a bit bussy in producing all the Channel8 stuff, so stay tuned for the Interviews.

Guys i really want to tell you more about seven and the things and rumours i heard about it. But due to the NDA, there is no chance to talk about it.

By the way, you can find a lot of Information and all the Sessions @ http://www.tele-task.de/

But lets talk a little bit more about the event and the things going on. Well first of all, i had a talk to Dave Propert which is the Godfather of Windows or say he is the Chief Kernel Architect. He's the guy. One sentence i can remember is: "The real cost of Memory is I/O". What does he mean by this. Well we have fast Processors and fast Memory but the Bus is a problem. So one of the challenges is to find a way how Software can improve the communication between the Memmory and Processors and get rid of the unnecessary communication!

Well, if u are interested in Windows Source Code and you're a student? Then have a closer look at the Windows Academic Program.

Visit Kai's Blog (german) to read more about the impressions he had.

Another very intersting thing is Hyper Visor. Well Hyper Visor originally get's it name from IBM when they had those big Mainframes and all the Supervisors! How is the thing managing the Supervisors, well sure the Hypervisor. Nowadays it is a small pice of software which is handling the communication between the Hardware and the Virtualisation Stack! In the virtualisation Stack u can host things like Windows, Linux, ... Want to know more about it?

So i have to leave the lab and before i loose my connection i just finish this post! cu

Dynamic Languages

At Xtopia 2007 I had a chance to interview Frank Fischer the Managing Developer Evangelist from the Developer & Platform Strategy Group Germany. So Frank gives us a principle understanding of what is going on in the Functional Programing Community and what is it all about. I enjoyed that interview. As I mentioned in the Channel 8 Article, he is really the Storyteller himself. Give this guy a stage and a topic! The result? A room of enthusiast and fascinated people.

Here is the Link to the Channel8 Post:
